Tech in the Classroom

With every generation, new technology is built to help make jobs easier; AI is that new technology for this generation. There is a lot of good that it can do, but it can also be taken advantage of. It has allowed students to avoid doing their work altogether and use the program to complete it for them. I have used AI in both my studies and my personal life. It can help you write concisely or expand your thoughts into more words. It can edit your work for you and even give you ideas for your writing. In my personal life, I have used it to help me write emails to sound more professional. I have also used it to help me create invites with wording that explains everything in non-confusing wording. I have used it for school to create abstracts of my papers, help give me ideas for assignments, and reword instructions to help me understand them. If used properly, AI can be a beneficial tool, but it can also prevent students from learning.

In my practicum, there are a few different kinds of technology. The main one is the smart board, which is used in almost every lesson. They also have computers, which are not used as often but are used for select lessons, as they have a Google Classroom account. They are also used for students who are still learning English and students with various learning disabilities. My school does not heavily rely on technology for the student's individual work. Still, it has been integrated into most lessons somehow, even if it just projects the assignment on the smart board.

Knowing how technology can be beneficial in a classroom if used properly makes me question how detrimental it can be when not used correctly? I have always struggled with the idea of giving young kids a personal phone, but as I grew up, I started to realize that technology is going to be integrated into a child's development in every section, so as a teacher, I need to embrace that. But in doing that, it is crucial to ensure that kids are still learning and not just relying on technology to do the work for them. If you cross that line, then these forms of technology become more harmful than helpful.
